£75 million star confirms ‘there have been talks’ with Chelsea keen to complete summer deal

Chelsea target Matthijs De Ligt has revealed he has talks to leave the Dutch giants, with the Premier League an option for him.

After helping Ajax reach the Champions League semi-final, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus in the process, De Ligt has become one of the most sought after defenders in the game.

The 19-year old has shown great leadership, ability and is a physical specimen already, with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all hoping to try and get a deal done.

Chelsea may be facing a he transfer ban which does not allow them to register players for the next two windows, but that has not stopped speculation about Maurizio Sarri could try and acquire in the summer window.

Chelsea are in the market for a new defender or two as the back-line has simply not been good enough, with the attack getting Sarri out of trouble on a number of occasions, and they are reportedly ready to meet the £75 million Ajax currently value De Ligt at.

De Ligt’s team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season for an initial fee of £65m, and now the powerful Dutchman has revealed he has held talks to leave the club.

Asked if he’d made his last appearance for the club, de Ligt replied on the Sky Sports website: ‘I don’t know yet. ‘There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement.’

Dutch legend Edwin Van Der Sar recently admitted that he will make the move to England or Spain in the coming windows.

“Frenkie de Jong is already a Barcelona footballer, while De Ligt I think will go to England or Spain,” Van der Sar told Sky in Italy before Ajax were eliminated by Tottenham from the Champions League.

De Ligt is destined to become a real superstar of the game and the club that manages to nail down his services will be getting a class act already, especially as he will develop in the coming years into the best defender in the game.

Chelsea certainly have the financial power to complete a deal for De Ligt, and can offer him Champions League football, they just need that transfer ban overturned so they can try and make a move.

It will be an interesting watch for many to see just where De Ligt ends up.
