Next stop Chelsea? £104 million rated Hazard replacement Giezmann officially confirms madrid exit

Chelsea target Antoine Griezmann has officially told Atletico Madrid that he will be leaving the club during the summer window.

Despite the fact that Chelsea are facing a huge transfer ban which means they cannot buy any players for the next two windows, the Blues are hoping the CAS postpone the ban and allow Maurizio Sarri to buy a few world class players, especially with Eden Hazard all set to leave.

The Belgian is a big target for Real Madrid and it is no secret that Chelsea are already preparing for life without Hazard, especially since he has already informed the club of his desire to leave, otherwise a new deal would have been signed.

And one name that has been mentioned as a possible target for Chelsea is that of Griezmann, who only signed a deal last season with the Spaniards amid speculation that he was set to leave for La Liga rivals Barcelona.

He was Atletico’s inspirational figure when they won the 2018 Europa League, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Olympique Marseilles in the final, before helping them win the UEFA Super Cup. Griezmann also lifted the Spanish Super Cup in 2014.

Griezmann, 28, said he had told Atletico coach Diego Simeone and chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin of his decision and addressed the supporters in the video message.

“I wanted to tell the fans who have always given me a lot of love that I have taken the decision to leave, to see other things, to have other challenges,” he said on the Marca website.

The news will once again peak the interest of Barcelona, who are keen to revamp the squad and try to sign a few superstar names, especially as they know rivals Real Madrid are seeking to spend some big money in the coming windows.

Chelsea will have an extra £86 million to spend from the sale of Hazard, so they will certainly have the money to complete this kind of deal. And considering Griezmann has been Madrid’s top goalscorer for the last five seasons, he could be an absolutely fantastic buy by the club.

They just need that ban to be delayed or cancelled.
