‘Im all for that’! Chelsea backed to wrap up £70 million January deal
CHELSEA HAVE BEEN BACKED TO SIGN LEICESTER CITY DEFENDER BEN CHILWELL IN THE COMING WINDOWS.
Now look the January transfer window is just a few months away and many Blues fans are getting excited about the prospect of Lampard delving into his transfer kitty to try and add a few ‘world class players’ to his very exciting, and talented squad.
And one player that has reportedly come onto the radar of Frank Lampard is that of Chilwell, who is now easily regarded as one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League after developing into a real class act with Leicester over the past few seasons.
And former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has claimed a left-back is the one area where they can strengthen in the coming windows and he believes Chilwell would do that, despite the fact the Blues have the impressive duo of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri in that area of the pitch.
Bent said on talkSPORT: “I don’t know how much money they’re going to have if this ban is overturned, but if they can go and get Ben Chilwell I think that’s really the only position where you’d say ‘well, if we can strengthen somewhere, it will be there’.
“And if you’re going to get him, then yeah I’m all for that. But they don’t need to go and make wholesale signings.
“I think they could have a look at the squad, see where they might be a bit light, there’s injuries and stuff, but you don’t need to go and buy, other than the left-back with Ben Chilwell, any starters.”
However, Frank Lampard will only make a move for Chilwell in the coming transfer windows if he feels that a move would benefit the squad, he recently told TalkSport: “I will cross that bridge when I come to it,” Lampard told Jim White. “I am very happy with what I’ve got, but it is something we would always look to at Chelsea.
“Can we improve in areas and only do business if we can improve and it feels it is the right thing for the group.
“Not just personnel wise, but in the balance and the way we are going.
“I will look at that one, but at the moment I can’t ask for any more.
“It’s nice that what happens at the appeal is really down the list of my priorities at the minute. The real priority is going game to game and trying to improve all the time.”
Look CHELSEA do have some very exciting youngsters in the squad and they have very bright future, but Lampard does need to add some experienced players to the side if they are to get back into the habit of winning things.
Chilwell is a top-class player but do Chelsea really need him right now?
