Forget Paredes and Barella as Sarri looking to sign Barcelona superstar Rakitic to Chelsea

Shock reports have claimed Chelsea are lining up a mega money move for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Despite the fact Maurizio Sarri lost Cesc Fabregas earlier in the transfer window, Chelsea have not been able to find an adequate replacement to come in and fill the void of the Spaniard until the end of the season.

The Blues were working on possible deals for Cagliari star Nicolo Barella and now PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes, but they were unsuccessful in trying to wrap up deals with Paredes completing his move to PSG and Barella keen to stay put until the summer.

Now reports on Catalan newspaper Sport report that Chelsea will try to tempt Rakitic to London in the summer transfer window, with some rumours the Spaniards are willing to let the aging midfielder leave the club if the right amount of money is offered.

The Croatian is expected to fall down the pecking order when Frenkie de Jong arrives from Ajax and would be happy to get him off the wage bill if a suitable offer arrives.

However, the 30-year-old says he is prepared to fight for his place at Camp Nou, stating: ‘If I am here [at Barcelona], it’s to play.

‘If anything has to change, we will speak. I have a lot of confidence. I know what I can give. I know who I am.

‘I want to be here and, if I can renew, to be here for even more years. I am really happy here, everyone knows it, above all the ‘Presi’ [president]. I have nothing else to say.’

Here is what we think.

If reports are true and Chelsea are lining up a move for Rakitic then he would be a world class addition to the midfield, as he is consdered to be one of the best in the business right now.
