David Luiz replacement found as Chelsea ‘in talks to sign up’ impressive defender Tomori
Reports have claimed defender Fikayo Tomori will enter contract talks with Chelsea as Frank Lampard plans to give the 21-year-old his first team chance following David Luiz’s move to Arsenal on deadline day.
Luiz, who recently agreed a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge, made the shock decision on transfer deadline day to make the move to the Emirates after boss Unai Emery cam calling.
It is believed that Luiz forced through a move away from the club after finding out that he would not be first choice at Stamford Bridge, with Frank Lampard reportedly preparing to give the youngers at the club more of a chance this season.
And with his departure, Lampard was unable to sign any players as there was simply not enough time left in the transfer window, and they are still banned from trying to acquire players over the next two windows.
But according to reports on the Goal website, they have already identified his possible long-term replacement as there have been some reports which have suggested that Tomori is all set to get a new contract to stay at the club.
The 21-year-old’s contract expires in 2021 and the Blues have always been keen to keep hold of the defender after his impressive loan spell under Lampard at Derby County last season.
And with Luiz now fully departed from the club, they are even more desperate to tie him down and make sure that he is not tempted by a move away from the club, with numerous clubs already showing a cheeky interest in trying to secure his services.
Losing Luiz on deadline day was a blow or Chelsea, as they need experienced players in the squad. But Tomori is definitely one for the future and needs to be handed a new contract.
If Chelsea are seeking to lead the club into a new era, then they need to keep hold of the brightest young talents at the club, and Tomori is certainly that.
The news that he will be signing a new contract will come as a massive boost to the side.
