From Barcelona to Chelsea for £27 million? World Cup winner Umtiti available this summer for bargain

Chelsea eyebrows will surely be raised by the fact that Samuel Umtiti is available for as little as £27million this summer window.

With Frank Lampard looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the Chelsea boss is seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with Umtiti high up on the shopping list.

Chelsea have already shipped too many goals this season and are in need of adding an experienced defender to that back-line in order to shore the the defence for next season.

A knee injury, which required surgery, saw the Frenchman lose his starting place to countryman Clement Lenglet last season, and reports suggested Barcelona are willing to allow him to depart the club for the right amount of money.

However, Umtiti has come out on a number of occasions and stated his desire to stay and fight for his Barcelona future, pretty much putting an end to the chase for Chelsea, who have seemingly switched their transfer attentions.

However, according to reports on the SUN, if Chelsea do decide to make a move for Umtiti, they will not have to splash close to the £50 million they were reportedly ready to pay last summer, and will only have to fork out £27 million to complete a transfer deal.

It is believed that Barcelona are seeking to offload a number of players during the transfer window and will let a number of players leave on the cheap, especially players like Umtiti who have struggled for game time.

Look, Chelsea are a team that need to be improved in certain areas of the pitch, that is a fact, but trying to sign a man that has been plagued by injuries over the past few seasons may not have been the way to go.

Yes Umtiti is still young enough to develop and yes he has won a number of trophies, but he is not the same player he was a few seasons ago and could struggles to adapt to the pace and quality of the Premier league.

So maybe him staying put in the summer window may be a good thing, as he may not improve this Chelsea back-line.
