Forget Luiz, defensive problem solved with £50 million World Cup winner Umtiti signing for Chelsea?
Chelsea should bring in Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, with the reports that they are ready to break the bank next summer.
Now we all know that Chelsea were unable to go out and splash the cash on some big named players as they were banned from acquiring any players for at least two transfer windows, and although they did appeal the ban, they only managed to tie down a permanent deal for Mateo Kovacic and bring in Christian Pulisic.
News boss Frank Lampard has a massive job on his hands trying to get the best out of the experienced players, while also giving the younger generation more of a chance at Stamford Bridge, as he could not improve the squad.
But with the sales of a number of first-team players, the Blues made a massive £130 million in sales this summer and that is to be reinvested into the club next summer, as Lampard will reportedly get around £200 million to spend on new players.
And we have suggested that the Chelsea boss goes out and buys a number of top-class signings, and Umtiti should be high upon that list.
Umtiti is regarded very highly across Europe and was close to a move away from Barcelona this summer as the Spaniards were keen to sell in order to complete a deal for Matthijs De Ligt, but decided to keep hold after the Dutchman agreed a move to Juventus.
He is in the prime of his football days and has both the physical and mental ability to come in, and help sort out that very dodgy back-line for Chelsea, which could cause them some serious issues over the course of the next 12 months.
Lampard will be keeping an eye on a number of possible targets between now and next summer, and he will be looking at the areas of the squad that definitely need improving, and the back-line is definitely an area of concern.
Kurt Zouma is not yet a top-class defender, Antonio Rudiger is too inconsistent and needs a leader next to him, while Andreas Christensen has not looked that impressive on his outings for Chelsea, and with David Luiz now not at the club, Chelsea need a defender.
Umtiti would cost £50 million, which would mean that Chelsea will have a ton of money to play with, and considering Barcelona are open to agreeing a deal for the centre-half, all Chelsea would have to do is agree a fee.
He is top-class and certainly a man that would help the Blues defensively over the next few seasons.
