Chelsea told to ‘stump up three-year contract’ and sign up headline taking midfielder
Graeme Souness reckons Chelsea should stump up a three-year deal to keep hold of their “best player” Willian.
Willian has been in the headlines for the last few months as there has been constant reports suggesting that he wants to stay at Chelsea this summer, but is not being offered the three-year deal that he wants.
It is understood that the Blues are only willing to offer an extra two years to the Brazilian winger – which has caused for much frustration to the fans, club and the player himself that clearly wants to stay.
And amid all the speculation, Souness reckons the Blues would regret letting Willian slip through the cracks and believes that they should offer him the three-year contract that he currently desires.
He told Sky Sports: “I think he’s their best player. He wants a three-year [deal], they’ve offered two. I’d be giving it to him
“You watch him play, he doesn’t look like a player to me whose legs are going anytime soon and he’s got great qualities.
“So I would be bending over backwards to keep him at the football club.”
Willian has been a big part of the side since the re-start of football and has been impressing for Chelsea, but at the end of the day, he is coming towards the back-end of his career and only has two years at the very top.
Plus with rumours that Kai Havertz is coming to the club, Chelsea may be thinking that the German is a perfect replacement for the Brazilian, so that is why they have probably been holding off.
If he really, desperately wanted to stay, he would sign that two-year contract, as that is a good offer for the player, especially when so many before him have only been given one-year contracts.
