Chelsea ‘are working hard’ to make sure massive five-year deal – Star up for signing

Chelsea is working hard to make Joao Felix’s transfer to England a permanent one.

Felix failed to make the grade over at Atletico Madrid and pretty much forced a move away from the club during the January transfer window – as he needed a fresh challenge in the game.

That allowed Chelsea to swoop in and bring him to the Premier League on loan until the end of the current season – and there have been calls for the club to make his switch to Stamford Bridge a permanent one.

Portuguese outlet Relevo has revealed that Chelsea could have an opportunity to keep Felix at the Bridge and extend his contract because a return to Los Rojiblancos looks highly unlikely at this time.

He has recently claimed that he could be open to staying at Chelsea for the long-term – as quoted by ESPN: ‘In terms of if I want to stay or not, I think the future, no-one knows.

‘Now I am just focused on tomorrow’s game. After that, we don’t know what will happen.

‘But I am happy here. The club is so big, is amazing, everyone behind the club is so good, so yes I am happy to be here.’

But the Portuguese International has also admitted that he has a desire to play Champions League football. But following their win over Leeds last Saturday, Chelsea are now 10th in the table, 11 points off the top four, but with a game in hand over fourth-placed Tottenham.

‘Playing Champions League is always different. It is the competition that everyone wants to play,’ he added.

‘But now I am focused on this Champions League, tomorrow’s game. We have a lot of games yet to try to reach the Champions League in the league. It is not over.

Playing Champions League, it is [an] important decision. But the future, no one knows so let’s see what happens.’
