Winter bargain! Bayern Munich tell Chelsea they can sign world class Hummels for £30 million in January
Chelsea have reportedly been told they are free to sign up Mats Hummels this January for a fee of around £30 million.
The German defender has ben one of the best centre-halves in world football over the seasons and has been on the radar of Chelsea for a number of years, with former boss Antonio Conte keen on a deal while new coach Maurizio Sarri is desperate to add a world class player to his back-line in the coming transfer windows.
Despite the good form of David Luiz, the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have not been good enough over the last 12 months and Sarri knows he must improve key areas if he wants to be serious Premier League title contenders.
And they have been boosted by the rumours Hummels could be sold in the January transfer window with Bayern Munich ready to let him go if chasing clubs agree to pay the £30 million, according to reports on the Sun Website.
Since Kovac has taken the reins at the Bavarian club, his rotation policy has seen Hummels on the bench and the player is beginning to think he will become the most prominent victim of the change of coach.
Here is what we think on Chelsea possibly signing Hummels.
It is no secret Chelsea have one of the best attacks in world football that will continue to keep them playing at the very top of the game, but Sarri needs a player of Hummels quality at the back as his defence is not up to scratch just yet.
And although the German star is now in his thirties, £30 million for the experienced star is not a big amount of money considering their other transfer targets could cost well in excess of £80 million.
