Maguire to Man United? Chillwell has January transfer message for Mourinho over £75 million deal

Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell has told Manchester United £75 million target Harry Maguire will not be leaving the club this season.

The towering Englishman was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford towards the bank end of the transfer window after impressing in Gareth Southgate’s work cup side that finished fourth in Russia.

His ability on the ball, his physical presence at the back and his ability to win a number of headers in the oppositions box caught the attentions of Jose Mourinho, who is desperate to improve his defence after failing to get his top transfer targets.

But after missing out in the summer, reports emerged which had claimed United could head back in during the January transfer window, as Leicester may be more willing to let the star leave.

However, Chillwell claims Maguire Maguire will not be leaving Leicester City this season.

Chilwell said on the Sky Sports website: “He is a Leicester player, he wants to play for Leicester. He has made that clear to all of us.

“He is going to be here for the whole season.
“He is going to be good for us. We saw that again tonight, how good a player he is. We are all happy that he has stayed.”

Here is what we think.

Maguire is a guy who is just coming into his prime and has so far not showed that he is ready to make the move to a big club like United, yes he performed well at the World Cup., but for Leicester last seen he was nothing more than an average defender.

He showed nothing to Mourinho and the special one was not even prepared to make a move until a few games into the world cup, when Maguire really took off.

Mourinho would much prefer the signings of Toby Alderweireld, who would cost £50 million and Raphael Varane of Real Madrid, who is valued around the £80 million mark.

Maguire is the special ones third option and one he could live without, the Englishman still has a lot to prove and if he can put in the kind of performances he was during the world cup, then maybe he will get his move to United.

But one thing is for certain, he is not worth £75 million as he is not in the class of Varane, Mats Hummels, Gerard Pique or even Alderweireld.

So if he did move to United then Leicester would have to be willing to take £30 million, as right now he is not worth much more than that.
