Hudson-Odoi contact, De Gea-Martial contract, Chamberlain, Clarke tipped for top in Liverpool, Man United news and gossip

Here is the daily roundup on Liverpool and Manchester United news and gossip

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa says Arsenal and Manchester United target Jack Clarke is destined for the “highest level”.

The 18-year-old winger is viewed as one of the best young prospects in the country with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, United and Tottenham all keeping tabs on the teenager.

Clarke’s current deal still has two-and-a-half years left to run – but there has been talk of an extension as Leeds look to cement his long-term future.

However, that has not stopped speculation that both Arsenal and United are readying a move to try and take him to their respective squads, with both looking to add a bit of width to the side.

And Bielsa has told all chasing clubs that Clarke is destined for the highest level of the game, telling the Sky Sports website: “The important thing is the opinion of the club, and the opinion of the player.

“You have many young players who arrive to a high level. The steps he’s making shows that he belongs to the category of players who play at the highest level.”

Liverpool are reportedly interested in Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi this January transfer window.

Hudson-Odoi is one of the highest regarded players at Stamford Bridge and is tipped to become Eden Hazard’s long-term replacement, having impressed on a number of occasions for the Blues this season.

However, he has been in the transfer headlines over the past few weeks after reports emerged which suggested Bayern Munich are desperate to try and tempt him to a switch to the Bundesliga.

Reports have suggested Bayern have submitted four offers for Hudson-Odoi, the latest rumoured to be £35 million, Chelsea do not want to sell Hudson-Odoi and are allegedly prepared to keep him around until his contract expires at the end of next season.

But Sport Bild in Germany say there is actually Premier League interest in the 18-year-old, with reports suggesting Liverpool are interested.

It has been claimed Liverpool have made enquiries about Hudson-Odoi at the beginning of the month and are have already met with his agent to discuss a possible switch to Anfield.

Former Liverpool star Phil Thompson has claimed the return of the injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be like a new signing for the Reds.

The midfielder has been sidelined since April after rupturing ligaments in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Roma, after finally making a starting spot his own at Anfield.

And with the Reds unlikely to do any transfer business this January window, the news that Oxlade-Chamberlain could be back in action before the end of the season has got legend Thompson all excited.

He told Sky Sports News: “It would be an absolutely brilliant addition and it would be like having a new player. It’s so difficult. As players, you go through these turmoils, and it is a turmoil to you when you have to sit out.

“It will give the players a buzz to see him coming back and he will be a massive asset if he can get back for the run-in. We’ve got a very good midfield who don’t get as many goals as they should do but that’s where Oxlade-Chamberlain comes in.

“He had it at Arsenal, it took a little bit of time to get to know the Jurgen Klopp way, the Liverpool way, but when he did, my goodness. He can dominate that drive from midfield, that powerful shot and the assists that he can bring. These are all assets that will help that midfield three that we’ve seen in the bigger games.”

Fresh reports have claimed Arsenal are eyeing up a deal for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata.

Mata’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and the Spaniard could leave Old Trafford as a free agent next summer, with Gunners boss Unai Emery reportedly ready to hand him a switch to the Emirates.

Emery and Mata have worked together during their Valencia days and although the Spanish midfielder is coming towards the back end of his professional playing career, the Spaniard has the creativity and quality to add something to the Gunners side.

And according to the Sky Sports website has Arsenal, Juventus, Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona are all watching developments on the contract situation with Mata, as the Spaniard simply cannot agree a new deal.

However, Mata, who joined United from Chelsea for £37.1 million in 2014, has recently revealed that he is willing to stay on at Old Trafford and sign a new deal.

“In terms of the club, all I can say is that I’m happy in Manchester and in England,” he said on the TalkSport website

“I’ve been in England for some years now and I’m very happy to be in this incredible club so let’s see what happens but at the moment I’m very happy.”

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the Red Devils are “making progress” with contract extensions for David De Gea and Anthony Martal.

Both Martial and De Gea are down to their last eighteen months of their contracts, and there had been some speculation in the media that they could leave the club.

But after the sacking of Jose Mourinho just a few weeks ago, both have renewed love for the club and are back to enjoying their football, after being frustrated under Mourinho.

And with the club unlikely to do any transfer business this window, Solskjaer has admitted that the club is making progress with the potential deals.

He said on the Sky Sports website: “I think the club is making progress, yeah, but I leave that to the right people to do that.

“I don’t really know how far away from it [we are] but hopefully we can have some good news in the coming weeks.”
