Cole opens up and tears into Arsenal boss Arteta for making shock Lacazette decision
Andy Cole believes Mikel Arteta showed ‘disrespect’ to Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette at the weekend.
Despite all the speculation that Arsenal wanted to get rid of Lacazette during the transfer window, the Frenchman has started the season in pretty good fashion and has already netted a couple of goals for the club.
He should have been s short-thing to start against Manchester City at the weekend, but The Spaniard opted to start Willian, a midfielder, as the main striker despite having a man that is able to find the back of the net sitting on the bench.
Lacazette did eventually come on in the second half but ex-Man Utd striker Cole believes it was poor management from Arteta, and he has claimed Arteta showed ‘disrespect’ to Lacazette, He told talkSPORT: “I think he is being disrespectful to Lacazette as well. Willian is not a centre-forward.
“If you have got a centre-forward on the bench who is your top goalscorer as well, to turn around and say, ‘Look, I am going to play Willian as the centre-forward.
“You sit on the bench and watch him play centre-forward’, I think that is very disrespectful.”
Arteta knows his team and believed that playing Willian up top would have been the best option, however, the Brazilian is not a striker and not used to playing in that striker role, so yes, Arteta made the wrong decision.
City were there to be got at, and Arteta made the wrong choice in playing Willian up-top rather than Lacazette, but that is a decision that he had to make.
Arsenal fans will just be hoping that Arteta makes better decisions in the coming months.
