Lampard’s perfect Hazard solution? £142m ‘creative genius’ Coutinho the man to replace former Chelsea star

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that it will be difficult to replace Eden Hazard, but one man that could do that job is Philippe Coutinho.

After months and months and months of speculation, Hazard finally got his dream move and sign for Real Madrid in a deal that could cost the Spanish giants around £130 million over the next 12 months.

There has been claims that the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi or Christian Pulisic could help replace the Belgian in the side, but Lampard has admitted that the side will virtually be unable to replace the man that helped the club to so much success during the seven year stint at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking ahead of the Super Cup final, Lampard said: ‘For me, clearly [Hazard is] one of the best players in world football and last season, but not just last season, over his time at Chelsea he was the most productive player in the team generally, in terms of assists and goals and a leader.

‘You cannot replace him individually, I think it’s pretty much impossible because of the high, high level he is at now in his career.

‘But the good news and the positive news for us and we must stay calm and be patient with this [is] we have a group of players, some younger players, some experienced players, that now have the opportunity to show that collectively and individually they can step up because yes, you are missing a huge amount of assists and goals, that’s clear.

‘The answer is as a team, we have to find a way to carry on because a football club like Chelsea will always carry on. Eden Hazard, John Terry, Didier Drogba, players move on and it’s down to the next players, the next manager.

‘That’s our big challenge now, to say good luck to Eden Hazard and to carry on as Chelsea.’

However, there has been talk in the media that Chelsea will hand Lampard around £200 million next summer to improve the side, and that means they could have the funds to complete a deal for Coutinho.

The Brazilian is a creative genius, can score goals and more importantly, will send a statement to the rest of the premier League that Chelsea are here to challenge for that title and are ready to spend the money to do so.

It is all well and good giving the younger players a chance, but Chelsea also need some ready-made, big-time players in the side if they want to challenge both Manchester City and Liverpool for that title.

Next summer seems like a very long-time away and fans would have loved to see that £200 million get spent this year, but Chelsea can start talking to players in the January window, and they should make sure that Coutinho is signed.

As we said, he is world class and just the type of player the club need to be signing.
