Werner deal close, Emery told to sign £50m Ramsey replacement, Pepe hijacking, De Ligt perfect in Arsenal News
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews
Chelsea are looking to beat Arsenal to the signing of Nicolas Pepe as a replacement for Eden Hazard, after Lille confirmed the winger would be on the move this summer.
Chelsea may be facing a transfer ban and unable to sign players for the next two transfer window, but that has not stopped the club eyeing up possible deals just in case FIFA decide to overturn or postpone the ban, which is what the Blues are seriously hoping for.
And despite having the likes of Olivier Giroud and Gonzalo Higuaín on the books at Stamford Bridge, Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is seeking a more long-term solution to his goal-scoring problems and has been linked with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Mauro Icardi over the past few months.
But another name that has been mentioned about a possible move to London is that of Pepe, as the 23-year-old Pepe is among the most highly-rated forwards in Europe and his transfer value is estimated at more than 50 million euros (£57 million).
Pepe has scored 19 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions this season and has been tipped to become one of the most deadly strikers in the game, with Arsenal boss Unai Emery a big fan.
But according to reports on the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are ready to swoop in and try to sign the long-term Gunners contract with a massive offer of £70 million, £13 million more than what Arsenal would have to pay to secure a transfer deal.
Arsenal must spend up to £50million this summer to replace Aaron Ramsey, according to pundit Andy Grey.
After months of talks and months of transfer speculation, the Gunners and Ramsey decided to part ways after ten years together as the club were not prepared to offer the Welshman the kind of deal that he was looking for, reportedly something close to the £350,000-a-week that Ozil currently gets.
And Ramsey decided to sign for Italian giants Juventus, meaning Unai Emery will be one midfielder short at the end of the season, which also means that he will need to delve into his transfer kitty and splash the cash to sign an adequate replacement.
now Grey has opened up and told the Arsenal that Mateo Guendouzi is not yet ready to replace Ramsey at the club, and they will need to splash £50 million on acquiring a new player.
“Well you probably start at £40m – start at £40m,” Gray said.
“If you want to replace him for what he’s got now. Listen, Guendouzi may be a player who comes in and in three or four years time he might be the new Aaron Ramsey, we don’t know that.
“He’s a young kid, they brought him from the second division in France. He looks a talent but he’s miles away from being Aaron Ramsey.
“So they’ve got to either wait two or three years to see if Guendouzi can become an Aaron Ramsey, and that’s not a given.
“Or they’ve got to look at and think ‘we’ve got to spend £45-50m to get a midfield player that can do what Aaron Ramsey does for us but will be doing for Juventus next year’.”
Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan has told the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United that Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt ‘is made for English football’
The young Dutchman is now regarded as one of the finest central defenders in world football after another impressive season with the Dutch giants, in which he has helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League by knocking out Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus side.
His displays this season have led to a lot of transfer speculation that the likes of Arsenal and United, along with most of Europe, are all interested in trying to secure a transfer deal at the end of the season as they both seek to bolster their back-lines.
But Van der Kraan insists the youngster would be the perfect signing for a Premier League club, saying whoever he joins will be getting ‘another Virgil van Dijk’.
He said: “We think Barcelona will be knocking on the door again next week to finish another transfer. They like him. They like him a lot.
“Juventus have already tried to get him.
“The player has actually been surprised that none of the big Premier League clubs have knocked on the door with similar offers.
“I think Matthijs de Ligt is absolutely made for English football.
“He is an absolute force, he’s physically stronger than anybody in that Ajax team and the attacking power he has at corners and set pieces – the way he headed in that second goal which helped Ajax into the semi-final, it was phenomenal.
“You have another Van Dijk coming to the Premier League if you get Matthijs de Ligt.”
Transfer expert Ian McGarry claims Liverpool are close to signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner ahead of rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.
Werner joined Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016 and has since scored 60 goals in 108 appearances and his performances for the German side have alerted a number of Europe’s top clubs to his growing talents.
Both United and Arsenal have been linked with mega money moves to land the talented German over the past few months, as Gunners boss Unai Emery wants to add another forward to keep his star duo up top on their toes, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seeking a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who has not been impressive this season.
The Germany striker is out of contract at the end of next season and despite the interest from RB to keep hold of the striker, he has decided that he wants to leave the club at the end of the season and test himself at the highest level.
And McGarry has claimed that it will be Liverpool that win the chase to nail down his services at the end of the season.
He said: “This (Werner) is a guy who since he signed from Stuttgart in 2016 has scored 60 goals in only 108 appearances – so he’s got a very good goals-to-games ratio. (He’s a) 23-year-old German international, has been interesting Liverpool for a long time.
“As we all know on the Transfer Window Podcast, and our educated listeners know this as well, when a player refuses to sign a new contract it’s usually because he’s got an agreement in place somewhere else.
“My information is Liverpool are very close to agreeing personal terms with Werner.
“Obviously they have been lacking a natural No 9 out-and-out striker for some time.”
