Ajax confirm De Ligt exit, £25 million Spurs raid and Leipzig announce Werner exit in Arsenal Sunday news and gossip

Here is the daily roundup of Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews.com

Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag has told the likes of Arsenal that £60 million rated defender Matthijs De Ligt will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

De ligt is easily regarded as one of the finest young centre-backs in world football after helping Ajax get back to the top of the game, and his performances over the past few seasons has alerted a number of clubs to his potential.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to spend again in the coming transfer window and have reportedly been keeping a very close eye on the development of De Ligt, especially as boss Unai Emery needs to improve the back-line ahead of next season.

However, it seems that Bayern and Barcelona are leading the chase for the talented Dutchman and although Ten Hag has admitted De Ligt will be leaving in the summer, the Ajax boss does not know whom he will be joining at the end of the season, He told Suddeutschen Zeitung: “There’s zero chance Matthijs de Ligt is staying at Ajax. There are so many clubs interested in him.

“He will leave us this summer, but I don’t know whether he’ll join Bayern or Barcelona.”

Now it is easy to see why De Ligt is a man in demand and it is also easy to see why Ajax have given up on trying to keep hold of the young man, especially as he will bring £60 million plus to the Dutch club in the next few months, which they can invest with. (Read more)

Reports have emerged and now claimed Arsenal are looking to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld during the summer transfer window for a cut-priced fee.

Gunners boss Unai Emery will look to delve into his transfer kitty over the summer transfer window in order to try and acquire the type of players that would come in and improve the squad, with Alderweireld linked with a move.

It is no secret that Alderweireld has failed to agree a new contract with Tottenham with reports suggesting Spurs are not willing to meet his wage demands, with many media outlets reporting he has become frustrated at the clubs inability to hand him the type of contract he deserves.

And the Metro have reported that Arsenal may swoop in, try to beat off their Premier League rivals and acquire the services of Alderweireld for just £25 million, as his current contract at Spurs runs out in the summer of 2020.

Tottenham will not want to sell one of the clubs most consistent performers to one of their top fours rivals, but if Arsenal come calling and activate the £25 million clause that is him Alderweireld’s contract, well there is not much Spurs can do. (Read More)

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has confirmed that Arsenal transfer target Timo Werner will not be staying with the Bundesliga club beyond the summer transfer window,

Werner joined Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016 and has since scored 60 goals in 108 appearances and his performances for the German side have alerted a number of Europe’s top clubs to his growing talents.

Arsenal have been linked with a potential move for the young German as Unai Emery is interested in signing another striker to keep both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on their toes, while also providing some much needed cover for the 37-goal pair.

The Germany striker is out of contract at the end of next season and despite the interest from RB to keep hold of the striker, he has decided that he wants to leave the club at the end of the season and test himself at the highest level.

Mintzlaff told Sky Germany: “We want to extend it with him, but he has signaled to us hat he would rather now extend.”

Arsenal will have a ton of money to play with during the summer transfer window, especially if Arsenal manage to get back into the Champions League places, so many fans will be hoping that Emery manages to acquire the type of players that will make an immediate impact on the side.
