Decision respected! Maguire opens up on possible £75 million Manchester United move

Manchester United target Harry Maguire has announced ‘he respects’ the decision of Leicester City not to let him leave in the summer transfer window.

Despite an average season with Leicester last season, Maguire showed up at the World Cup in Russia with a point to prove that Gareth Southgate was right to include him in the England squad with many feeling he clearly was not ready.

But he showed great poise, quality and ability at the back and became one of the most important players Southgate had.

That led to speculation that United boss Jose Mourinho was ready to swoop in and offer Maguire a big money move to Manchester, as he wanted to bolster his own back-line this summer.

But Leicester did not want to do business and put a massive £75 million price tag on the head of Maguire, a fee the United board did not want to back and now Maguire has stated he respects the clubs decision to pay hard-ball over a transfer deal.

“I want to be on the pitch, whether it is for someone else or for Leicester,” said the 25-year-old.

“There was always going to be interest over the summer after the team doing so well in Russia but the owners reiterated I was not for sale and I respected their decision.

“They gave me the opportunity to play for this club, such a good club on the rise and I respected their decision.

“My mind has been fully on Leicester since then.

“I’ve been really impressed since I came back. The people brought in seem to have fitted in really well and I think we’ll only get better.

“I’m an ambitious player and I think we have a really good, talented squad. If we stick together, we can be a real force this year.”

Here is what we think

Mguire had a few good games at the world cup but is not ready to play at the highest level on a weekly basis for United, he needs a few more seasons developing and then will be ready to take that staep up in the game.

But if Leicester believe they will ever get £75 million for him they are drinking sometng crazy, he is worth around £50 million maximum.
