Dembele sent transfer warning, Chelsea make Dest top priority and Digne keen on Blues move in Chelsea roundup….

helsea’s reported target Lucas Digne is said to prefer a move to London over Newcastle, after the Magpies submitted a bid for the Everton defender.

The long-term injury to Ben Chilwell has reportedly persuaded the Blues to head into the transfer market for a replacement and Digne has been heavily linked in the media.

Digne has not featured for Everton over the festive period after an apparent fall out with manager Rafa Benitez over tactics, and looks set to depart Goodison Park during this transfer window.

It has been claimed on many occasions that Chelsea are interested in doing a loan deal with Everton for Digne with the option to make the move a more permanent one at the end of the season.

Now, amid all the speculation that Newcastle are also interested in a transfer deal for Digne, Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, who covers the North-East of England, has said Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have made the first move out of Premier League clubs for his signature, but Digne would much prefer a move to sign with Chelsea.

‘Newcastle have made a £22.5m bid for Lucas Digne, with Sean Longstaff offered to Everton as part of the deal,’ Downie tweeted.

‘However left-back Digne has indicated he would prefer a move elsewhere, with London duo Chelsea and West Ham interested.’

If Digne joined Newcastle, he would get far more game time than he would at Chelsea, but he would be joining a project. He clearly wants to make the step up in the game and play for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

And to be quite honest, Chelsea play the kind of football that would appeal to Digne, and suit his style of play. There are many weeks left in the transfer window, so lest see what happens

Fresh reports have again claimed Chelsea have made the signing of Barcelona ace Sergino Dest their “number one” transfer target.

The start of the New Year in football signifies the opening of the transfer window and after the past month of struggle for Chelsea, it might be a bit busier than anticipated for Tuchel

The German boss said himself at the start of the month that he was not planning a busy transfer window, but confirmation that Ben Chilwell needs surgery, and will be out until the new year means that he needs to add to that back-line.

There has been a number of players linked with a transfer move to the Bridge, and the latest name to to linked is that of Dest.

The right-sided defender, that can operate on the left, has become a reported target of the Blues as the board know Barcelona need funds in order to buy the quality of player Xavi needs to get the club back to the top of the game

Now, according to Sport, Dest is now the hierarchy’s top target for the January transfer window, and the Blues hierarchy have already begun making moves to get a deal done

The USA international plays predominantly at right-back, but can also operate on the other side.

However, It’s claimed the Dutch-born American remains fully focussed on overcoming Covid-19 – after testing positive for the virus prior to Barca’s clash with Mallorca – and is intent on putting his persistent back problems behind him.

Losing Chilwell for the rest of the season is a massive blow to this Chelsea squad and Tuchel will know that he will need to make the right transfer calls, or it could scupper his season.

Dest is a quality defender that has the versatility that the Blues are looking for, it will be interesting to see if they can get a transfer deal done as he looks like he wants to stay

Barcelona boss Xavi has warned Ousmane Dembele that he needs to continue putting in effort amid reported transfer interest from the likes of Chelsea.

Dembele has greatly frustrated since arriving at the Camp Nou. Due to a combination of both poor form and persistent injuries, he has made just 126 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring 30 goals

However, there has been some shock speculation in the media that Chelsea may be open to the idea of bringing him to the Premier League in order to add a bit more of a goal-threat to that Attack.

Dembele enjoyed his best form at Dortmund under current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, so it would not be a surprise to see the two reunited at Stamford Bridge, especially as Chelsea know they may be able to get the Frenchman for a bargain.

And amid the speculation, Xavi – who took the reins at the club from Ronald Koeman earlier this season – has had his say on the current situation by hinting that Dembele needs to do his talking on the pitch amid transfer links with both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey showdown with Linares Deportivo on Wednesday night, the former midfielder said: “I have already said it to him, I am waiting for him to make an effort

“The situation cannot be better for him. Let’s see what he decides.

“I’m hoping that he puts in effort before deciding. I am calm and waiting on an update.

“It does not depend on me. It depends on the club and him. He should think about himself and his future.”

Look, there is no doubt that Dembele has massive amounts of potential, but the player is just too injury prone. If Chelsea just want to add to their squad, then he could be a decent signing.

But he is no longer a regular starter and not any better than what Chelsea already have
