Big move! Former Manchester United star Depay announces interest in signing for Chelsea
Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay has admitted his interest in joining Chelsea and Manchester City.
The Dutchman had a very unimpressive spell at Manchester United in which he managed just seven goals in 53 appearances, but he has reinvented himself over at French giants Lyon and there has been talk of a move to one of Europes biggest clubs.
Chelsea have been linked with a move in the past as reports suggested the Blues were looking to a long-term replacement for Pedro or Willian, who have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons.
But while United inserted a buy-back clause in Memphis’ contract when he joined Lyon, Depay has admitted that he would be interested in joining Chelsea.
‘Lyon is a big club, but not one of the five best in Europe,’ he told Helden Magazine.
‘I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.
‘I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football
‘I always talk about Real Madrid, a royal club, white shirts with gold, gruesome, but I focus on now at Lyon and then we see where I end up.’
Would Depay be a good signing for Chelsea?
The Dutchman is only 24-years old and playing the best football of his life, so he is almost ready to take that step and play for one of the biggest clubs in world football, but he may struggle to get game time at Chelsea.
The Blues have a number of wingers already at the club and are looking at big named signings, so unless Depay steps up his game in the coming months, he is not ready for that move to the Premier League once again.
