Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on Arsenal bound defender Jurrien Timber

The Dutch defender almost made the move to Manchester United last summer with Erik Ten Hag keen to raid Ajax – but in the end – he stayed put.

Now – it seems that he is coming to the Premier League this summer window – but with United’s top-four rivals ARSENAL – who have reportedly made another offer to Ajax for the defender.

Timber is reportedly close to signing for ARSENAL from Ajax, with just a few things needed to be ironed out to complete the deal.

And Van Dijk has heaped praise on the defender – declaring that the 21-year-old is even better than he was at the same age – Van Dijk’s comments came last year prior to the World Cup.

Speaking to reporters, Van Dijk said, “I wasn’t nearly as far along as he is now. I have nothing but praise for him. He is a great player and a true professional. He has so much potential.”

The Liverpool center-back went on to express his hopes for Timber’s future, saying, “Hopefully he can develop further. Then he will be all right, I think.”

Timber will be a very good addition to that Arsenal side – he does have all the physical attributes to cope in the Premier League – and he is certainly a man that is not lacking in confidence.

ARSENAL need to add some more depth to key areas of the pitch and signing a player like Timber is a very smart decision from the board – that right-back area was an issue last season and needed to be sorted.

But he is a lad that has the ability to play all across that Back-line – so will be good addition.
