Arsenal Head coach addresses rumours ‘crucial midfielder’ heading to La Liga

Arsenal Woman head coach Jonas Eidevall has dismissed reports linking midfielder Lia Walti with a move to Real Madrid.

After agreeing to a new deal only recently, the Swiss midfielder has been a crucial member of the Gunners’ midfield since signing in 2018, but there has been rumours that she could depart the club this month or in the summer.

However – Eidevall was quick to extinguish any flames of doubt regarding his prized midfielder’s move away from ARSENAL – Speaking in a press conference, Eidevall said: “Yes [she is staying]. I don’t have any other idea in my head and I don’t think she does either.”

When asked where the stories came from, Eidevall responded, “Obviously from people that want attention.

“I think that is the problem with rumours, when there is not a direct, reliable source, you can’t really do much with them. The Lia Walti potentially leaving rumour definitely falls into the category of being with no truth whatsoever and she is a player we are very happy with.

“I think she is very happy at the club as well. I understand that it is hard for supporters when you read things like that to understand if there is truth in it, this one definitely does not.”

Eidevall then spoke on whether the Gunners’ January transfer business is done: “Little bit more but not much more incoming, it might be a little but more on the outgoing side.

“We have a good balance in the squad and a player like Leah Williamson returning from injury and Laura Wienrouither as well coming here in the spring that puts us in a good situation.”

On where ARSENAL could strengthen, he added: “It’s a very hypothetical question. And like I said, we don’t look at any specific position right now, to go in and say ‘We need to go in here and strengthen.’ But, as always, if the right situation would appear and it would align with our long term visions, then it might obviously change. But at the moment, no.

On whether the plan is still for Giovana Queiroz to go out on loan, Eidevall added: “Yes, that is still the plan, she needs minutes.”
