Gunners boss Unai Emery is hopeful Arsenal will bring in reinforcements during the January transfer window.
Emery has enjoyed a very good start to life at the Emirates and has seen his signings thrive in their first few months of the season, but there is alot of criticism of the back-line with many believing that it is not good enough for Arsenal to compete for the Premier League title.
And that has led to speculation that Emery will be given funds this transfer window to sign a world class defender that can come in and solidfy the back-line, with a whole host of players linked with the club.
After the 3-0 FA Cup third-round win over Blackpool at the weekend, Emery admitted he is hopeful that a few signing s arrive at the club, telling the Sky Sports website: “I think the club is working for the possibility to take some players who can help us during these next four months.
“Maybe the transfer market can help us with a centre-back, but it is not easy because also (Konstantinos) Mavropanos is coming back after injury. Also a winger, right or left, one player can help us in this position.”
Will Arsenal actually do any big business this transfer window?
Signing a world class defender half way through the season is a very difficult thing as many clubs do not want to let go of their best players, and the ones that do normally sell for big money.
So if Emery is to do busines it will be for a player like Gary Cahill, who is not needed at Chelsea and will be allowed to leave if the right offer arrives.
And he would be a signing to help cover the defensive problems at the Emirates, and Emery will then go for a bigger named signing in the summer.
