‘Ambition, Hungry’ Gunners boss Unai Emery announces ‘Arsenal need players’ like this man after summer deal
Gunners boss Unai Emery has claimed that on-loan Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has the qualities that Arsenal need ahead of their Premier League opener against Newcastle this weekend.
After a summer of frustration and anger from most fans, the Gunners finally managed to secure a transfer deal for a number of players, with the likes of William Saliba, Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz and Kieran Tierney all following Ceballos to the Emirates.
Ceballos could be in line to make his competitive bow but it depends if the midfielder is completely recovered after taking a heavy kick to his ankle in a pre-season defeat to Barcelona last weekend, And Emery has admitted that he needs ‘hungry’ players like the Spaniard in his squad.
“Ceballos’ mind is very strong,” Emery said of the six-cap Spain international.
“His mentality. Last Sunday, when he received a big kick on his ankle I thought ‘oh, it’s broken’.
“But after, on Monday, he was training – (he said) ‘I’m fine and want to train’. He is showing us every day his ambition, his hunger is big. I think we need players like this.”

And on the clubs transfer business over the summer, emery admitted that the side are more of a team now then they were a year ago, adding: “We are very happy and we are delighted with what the club did (in the transfer window).
“Also (head of football) Raul Sanllehi and (director of football) Edu were working together to find the best solutions, being competitive in the moment we can sign another player and also using the club to support us economically to do that.
“And really, really now we are going to fight strong with a big responsibility with this squad and after that we want to continue doing well.”
The signing of Ceballoas was a strange one for many Gunners fans to take in, but he has looked decent in pre-season and Emery could have pulled out a real bargain in nailing his services on a try-before-they buy kind of deal.
Arsenal have a long way to go before they are back challenging for the Premier League title, but it could be an exciting season for the Gunners as the players they have brought in, bar David Luiz, all have something to prove and are hungry to do so.
