Fan get answer! Gunners boss Unai Emery opens up on possible deal for £142 million rated Superstar
Unai Emery says Arsenal have NOT held talks with Barcelona over a loan move for Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho made a name for himself at Liverpool as one of the best creative midfielders in the game and Barcelona were determined to acquire his services as the long-term replacement for Andreas Iniesta.
However, his move to the Camp Nou has not gone down as well as many had hoped and after the arrival of Antoine Griezmann, he has fallen well down the pecking order, meaning the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in a potential deal.
But there has been some shock speculation in the media over the past few days which have suggested that Arsenal are ready to make a shock move to bring Coutinho to London, in a deal that would send a real statement to the premier League.
Emery has done some big business over the past few weeks and Coutinho would be seen as the icing on top of the cake, especially as there is still a lot of transfer speculation surrounding Mesut Ozil.
However, Emery insists no talks began with Barcelona, telling the TalkSport website: “We’ve never talked about Coutinho,”
“He’s a splendid player, but we haven’t talked about Coutinho at any time.”
Coutinho is an absolute superstar and it is a massive shock to see that he has been unable to produce the kind of form he managed at Liverpool.
But if there was a chance, even a slight chance that Arsenal should have tried to do a deal, as the Brazilian would be a fantastic signing for the club and one that would send a real statement to the rest of the Premier League.
He is just the type of game-changing player that needs to be signed by Emery, so the news that Arsenal will not be making a move will actually be bad news for many Gunners fans that wanted to see a big-time player signed this transfer window.
