Gunners boss Unai Emery announces delight after very, very late Arsenal Luiz deal gets announced
Gunners Boss Unai Emery has opened up and admitted his delight after seeing David Luiz arrive from Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
There was a lot of frustration and anger from many Gunners fans for most of the transfer window, as the business was just not getting done by the club. But Emery pulled it out the bag towards the back-end of the transfer window and nailed a number of decent signings.
Dani Ceballos arrived on loan from Real Madrid, William Saliba will be arriving next season after signing this summer, Nicolas Pepe signed for a club record £72 million fee, Kieran Tierney arrived on transfer deadline day for just £25 million and then Arsenal completed the signing of Luiz late on Thursday evening, very late.
It is believed that Luiz had asked to leave Chelsea for Arsenal after finding out that he would no longer be first choice at Stamford Bridge, and with Arsenal short at the back and lacking in quality, he has decided to make the move to the Emirates.
And Emery, who worked with Luiz during his time at PSG, has admitted his delight at seeing the Brazilian make the move to Stamford Bridge, telling the club website:”David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again.
“He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength.”
Luiz can be a great defender on his day and it is easy to see why Emery is keen, especially as the Brazilian plays just how he likes to play from the back. But Luiz is not the player he once was and will surely not help improve this Gunners back-line.
He is too inconsistent, makes too many mistakes and just makes his defensive partners feel uneasy during games. There were better signings out there for Arsenal and it is a shame to see that they took the easy way out and signed a short-term answer to their long-term solution.
Many fans will welcome Luiz, but will not be happy that a world class defender did not show up towards the back-end of the window.
