Gunners hero has Arsenal message for Emery after completing deal for star Tierney ‘who oozes quality’

Gunners legend Martin Keown has praised Unai Emery for completing a deal for Manchester United target Kieren Tierney.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent over £130 million on improving his defence in the summer with the signings of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan Bassika, but there is a feeling around that the Red Devils are still one defender short.

And one player that was reportedly on the shopping list of Solskjaer was that of Tierney, the Celtic defender that has been linked with a move to the Premier League for the past 12 months.

United may have been interested, but it was Arsenal who managed to complete a £25 million deal for the talented young man as Unai Emery sought to also improve key areas of his defence ahead of the new Premier League season.

Tierney impressed during his first 90 minutes for the Gunners in the 4-0 Europa League win over Standard Liege on Thursday, And Keown is impressed with what he has seen so far of the 22-year-old.
“Well there’s absolutely no doubt about that [Tierney will be starting regularly soon],” Keown said on BT Sport.

“I was always told as a young player when you come in you have to make your mark.

“There’s no time to lose and he made really good use of that opportunity [against Standard]. Bursting down that left-hand side, look how high up the pitch he is.

“He’s saying ‘give it to me and I’ll deliver’ and he puts that ball in the box time and time again. Really positive in everything he does, he wants to go at people.

“The quality is there, he’s oozing quality and [Sead] Kolasinac is under pressure, there’s no doubt about it. He kept on doing it in the second half, he keeps wanting to get forward, looked a little bit tired late on.

“I was really pleased for him, he looks as if he’s a wonderful signing, £25m, and he can be really happy with his night’s work.”

United missed out on a real player here as Tierney is showing that he has the potential to become one of the best left-backs in the game, if he develops nicely at the Emirates.

Many fans will now be hoping that he continues to impress on a weekly basis, as they need that back-line to sort out there issues.
