Spaniard Enrique opens up and officially admits offer made with Arsenal keen to wrap up deal
Arsenal target Luis Enrique confirmed he was sounded out by a ‘foreign club’ before his reappointment as Spain’s national team head coach.
Now there has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few weeks regarding the future of Unai Emery, who is not loved by many sections of the fans after failing to achieve what he was brought in to do, and that is challenge for the Premier League and Champions League titles.
His inability to get this Arsenal challenging once again has led to a lot of transfer speculation in the media that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was the clubs number one target, but he eventually signed for arch rivals Tottenham.
But after missing out on Mourinho, there was some speculation that the Gunners were interested in signing up Enrique, but he decided to head back into International football and re-signed with the Spanish National side.
Enrique appeared at a press conference on Wednesday for the first time since returning to national team duties and revealed on the Sky Sports website: ‘Yes, I received a call from a foreign club, although it did not materialise.’
Emery was forced to hold an emergency meeting with club chiefs Edu and Sanllehi in the tunnel area following the loss of two points against Southampton, a side placed 19th in the table, on Saturday and has subsequently been given four games to save his job
Now as we said Arsenal will be linked with a whole bunch of top managers in the coming months until a new boss is appointed and many Arsenal fans will have their favourites to take over Emery.
They have missed out on Mourinho, they have missed out on Enrique, so they need to hurry up and make a move for Mauricio Pochettino, as he could be the ideal man to come in and help get this under-achieving side back into the habit of challenging for some silverware in the coming seasons.
