Erik Ten Hag stunningly revealed he wanted £30M midfielder at Manchester United
Erik Ten Hag has revealed that he wanted Scott McTominay to stay at Manchester United as the midfielder completed his move to Napoli on the transfer deadline day for a fee of £30 million.
McTominay was a big part of that Manchester United side last season and a man that was tipped to have another good season for Ten Hag this campaign, but then all the transfer rumours started that he was no longer wanted.
The midfielder has been linked with so many clubs over the past few months – but he had to wait until the deadline day to seal a move to Italian giants Napoli after they showed an interest in getting a deal done.
But after seeing the midfielder make the move away from Old Trafford – Ten Hag has come out and claimed that he wanted the Scotsman to stay at Old Trafford this summer: “I’m very happy for him and for us, but it’s mixed [feelings] because I would have preferred not to lose him,” the Dutchman said at a press conference on Friday. “He has Manchester United in his veins.”
Ten Hag later added: “He was so important for our team, he was at Manchester United for over 22 years. But unfortunately, it’s the rules. You have to discuss the rules to do sales and obviously homegrown players, academy players, bring more value.
‘It’s not the right thing to do but for everyone, for all parts, it’s a good deal. For Scott, he is happy with it. Of course, for Napoli, a very good player but also for us.”

Many Manchester United fans are sad to see that McTominay has left the club – he was a solid performer for Ten Hag – but excuses are excuses and if the Dutchman really wanted him to stay – we are sure it would have happened.
