Hummels leaving, Pogba staying, Cascarino claim, £240,000-a-week Eriksen move in Liverpool and Man United Sunday news
Here is the daily roundup of Liverpool and Manchester United news and gossip
The summer arrivals of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard at Bayern Munich mean Mats Hummels could leave this summer, with Manchester United interested in a possible transfer deal
The German defender has been one of the best centre-halves in world football over the seasons and has been on the radar of some of the Premier Leagues biggest clubs.
But with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add a world class defender to his back-line in the January transfer window, the Red Devils will be given a massive boost to the lasts reports which have emerged out of Germany.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident he can keep Real Madrid target Paul Pogba at Manchester United this coming transfer window.
Pogba has been in spectacular form for United since the arrival of Solskjaer and is starting to show the kind of world class ability which forced United to splash over £100 million to secure his services from Juventus just a few seasons ago.
However, over the past few weeks there has been some speculation linking the Frenchman with a mega money move away from Old Trafford as Madrid are keen to splash the cash and revamp their side, with talk Zinedine Zidane will be handed a massive £450 million to sign some big name players in the transfer market.
But Solskjaer has come out and claimed that despite all the transfer speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future, he is certain that the French world cup winner will be at Old Trafford next season.
“There might be a campaign, you never know what there is,” said Solskjaer.
“But in my talks with Paul he’s always been positive. I don’t see a difference in him when I chat to him. He’s focused on performing and he’s a proud player. He always gives his best.
“He has made a difference for us in a few games, but so has Romelu [Lukaku], so has Marcus [Rashford]. There have been different players in different periods that have made the difference. It’s not just about one player. It’s not just about Paul.
“He had his highest ever output physically on Wednesday night against Barcelona , he’d never ran as much in a United shirt. That was brilliant.
“The effort and attitude is there. I thought in the first-half, we speak about Fred and Scott McTominay, but I thought Paul made us play. He settled us down a bit, in the first-half especially. We just fell away towards the end. But the effort he put in was tremendous.” (Read More)
Tony Cascarino has urged Manchester United to offload Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid keen on a transfer deal.
Despite his recent good form under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there has been a lot of criticism about the performances of the Frenchman during his three year stay at old Trafford as many feel that he has not justified the massive £90 million price tag that United paid to nail down his services.
It has led to a lot of transfer speculation in the media all suggesting that Madrid are ready to swoop in and take him to the Bernabeu, having been linked with a deal well before he eventually signed for United.
And despite Solskjaer coming out and believing that Pogba will be at United next season, Cascarino has come out and tole the Red Devils to cash in on the Frenchman.
“This August will be three years of Paul Pogba. How has he been in those three years?” he said.
“We’ve seen some really good highs. He’s had his moments but not consistent enough and not brilliant enough to be a player you want to build a team around.
“He’s 26-years-old. I, personally, would sell him.
“Why? You would get a fantastic fee for him that would enable you to build a team of other players that would contribute if not the same or more than Pogba can.
“I think United have had an alright Paul Pogba. No better than that. I think he’s had good moments. What would you give him out of 10 for his three year period? Seven at best.” (Read More)
Fresh reports have again claimed Manchester United are ready to sign Liverpool transfer target Christian Eriksen from Tottenham during the summer transfer window.
Eriksen has become a vital part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the past few seasons and is one of the creative reasons why they score so many goals throughout the course of the season, but there has been speculation that he could leave the club.
It is believed that the Danish star has refused three contract offers from Spurs over the past few months, with the latest reportedly close to the £110,000-a-week mark, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, United and Barcelona all keeping a close eye.
And according to reports in the media, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was ready to swoop in and offer him a summer move to Anfield, as the German boss seeks to add a long-term replacement to the aging Jordan Henderson, who has become a bit-part player at the club this season.
But the Sunday Mirror has now claimed United are willing to treble the Tottenham playmaker’s wages to £240k-a-week to bring him to Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add some creativity to his midfield in hope of getting United back to the very top of the game. (Read More)
