Ex-Spurs boss Pochettino opens up about reported summer Newcastle United offer
Mauricio Pochttino has responded to reports that he would get the Newcastle United job if they were taken over this summer
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund was expected to buy the Magpies from Mike Ashley, but the deal fell through as the Premier League would not allow the takeover to take place.
However, that did not stop the group making moves to try and sign one of the highest rated managed in the game Pochettino, after he got the sack from Tottenham, despite guiding the side to a Champions League final just a few seasons ago.
Reports in the summer suggested that Pochettino had been contacted about making a move to the Toon, and would help get the side challenging for Champions league football and possibly winning that Premier League title.
However, In a Spanish radio interview, Pochettino claims Benfica and Monaco are the only clubs to have contacted him since his departure from Tottenham in November last year.
Pochettino told Cadena COPE : “I don’t know who was putting my name on so many clubs”
“Barcelona did not offer me. Neither did PSG, nor Juventus or Newcastle. Benfica and Monaco did call.”
Loom, if Newcastle got taken over this summer, then Pochettino could have been the man to help them get back to the very top as he has proven himself to be a very good manager that works wonders with teams like Newcastle.
It could have been a different start to the new season if the takeover happened, but that is all a dream for man Toon fans now.
