£43 million man sends Fabinho sends Man United message as trophies wanted with Liverpool
Liverpool midfielder Fabinho says he rejected the chance to sign for Manchester United, as he wanted to win trophies at Anfield.
The Brazilian defender became one of the most sought after midfielders in the transfer window, with a number of high-profile clubs interested in trying to secure his signature.
But in the end the battle came down to United and Jurgen Klopp’s men, as both were keen to meet the £43.7 million asking price Monaco had set with both looking to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.
However, it was Klopp who won the race to a deal after being convinced by the club’s ambition ahead of completing his big money move from Monaco.
“When the opportunity came about to join Liverpool, I spoke to the coach and that gave me the certainty that it was the right decision which has been confirmed by being here,” he told Sky Sports.
“I’d been at Monaco for many years, and I believe it was time for a change. I wanted to move to a massive club with ambition that are fighting for titles. It was between the English league and the Spanish league.
“This is a massive club, and if this is not the best league in the world, it’s one of the two biggest championships in the world.
“We are looking very strong. The preparations have been great and looking at all the elements, not just the first team, we have a great squad. We will be fighting for the title.
