Man United legend Ferdinand urges Arsenal and Liverpool target to leave Chelsea
Rio Ferdinand has advised Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United target Ruben Loftus-Cheek to leave Chelsea.
Loftus-Cheek showed his potential for Crystal Palace last seasons before making an even bigger impact at the World Cup for England, and many Blues fans had been hoping that new boss Maurizio Sarri would give the lad a real chance at becoming a big superstar for the club.
But so far this season, the 22-year-old has played just 33 minutes in the Premier League as Chelsea strengthened their midfield with the arrivals of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the summer.
And that has once again led to speculation that he could leave the club in January, with the likes of Arsenal, United and Liverpool all interests and keeping a very close eye on his situation knowing that a bargain deal could be struck for one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League.
Now Ferdinand has warned that the midfielder runs the risk of going mentally and physically ‘stale’ at Stamford Bridge if he stays, and should look to leave if he doesn’t get the game time under Sarri.
‘Obviously the players are not good enough [for these teams],’ said Ferdinand on BT Sport.
‘The young kids like [Phil] Foden, [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek and [Dominic] Solanke who are winning tournaments for England at youth level, if they’re good enough they’ll be playing.
‘It’s such a lucrative game for these [club] managers and their jobs are on the edge every single game, and they want players who are going to win instantly.
‘These players obviously aren’t being blooded properly.
”If I’m Ruben Loftus-Cheek I’m banging down the manager’s door and saying ‘are you going to play me or not?’
”I’ve got potential, I think I’m better than half these players you’re bringing in, if you aren’t going to play me, tell me and I’m going.’
”Don’t have me hanging about here getting stale’. If you’re not playing in the team as a young kid you go stale mentally and physically.’
Here is what we think.
Loftus-Cheek is a real talent that needs to play and Ferdinand is right, if Sarri fails to give him the kind of game time he needs then the Premier League big boys would definitely like to get a deal done and help with his development.
He could be a star for Chelsea, but with all the quality already at the club then it would be a massive shock to see him at the club beyond this season.
