Forget £50 million deals Frank as exciting full-back already getting Chelsea fans excited after Summer arrival
Chelsea have been linked with many full-backs in recent weeks, but the answer to their defensive issues could be the talented Reece James.
Despite the fact that Chelsea are unable to sign any players this transfer window and bring in the kind of faces that would help take the club to that next level, there has been a lot of transfer speculation about the club in the media.
New boss Frank Lampard will have a big issue on his hands when he arrives, as he will be unable to improve on key areas of the pitch, namely the strike-force and the defensive back-line.
Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham may be the answer to the Blues attacking issues, but ask any Chelsea fan about which player they’re most excited about and nine times out of ten they’ll say James.
Although he’s injured for the start of the new campaign, 19-year-old James went from strength to strength this season and is now viewed as one of the best young English players around.
His performances for Wigan last season meant he was named Wigan’s Player of the Season and also featured in the Championship Team of the Year.
Cesare Azpilicueta is coming towards the back-end of his playing career and is almost certainly set to leave the club in the next few windows, but there may not be too many better at the club to learn from than the experienced Spaniard.
James knows that a return to Chelsea may not guarantee him anymore game time that he wants, and the best thing for his developing career is to leave, but this is the best time for him to take his chance.
Lampard has been brought in to give the younger players a chance to shine at Stamford Bridge, and James knows that he would be given more of a chance in the Blues side now the club are unable to do any transfer business.
The Blues have been linked with some world class players over the last few months, but James has the potential to be a superstar, and could save the club around £50 million in transfer funds.
