Boss announces he is ‘really happy’ top midfielder has joined Arsenal this summer
New Tottenham boss Thomas Frank insists he fully understands Arsenal’s decision to sign Christian Norgaard from Brentford this summer, after the Gunners landed the star for £15 million.
The Denmark international had been with Brentford since signing from Fiorentina in 2019, with spells earlier in his career with Hamburg and Brondby, but he has really impressed over the past 12 months.
Mikel Arteta’s side sealed a £15 million deal for the 31-year-old earlier this month. Before their six seasons together at Brentford, Frank also managed Norgaard at Brondby as well as at youth level with Denmark’s national side
And after the recent fixture between ARSENAL and Tottenham, Frank said he was ‘so happy’ for Norgaard’s move to Arsenal.
‘It was a little emotional,’ Frank said.
‘I’ve known him since he was 15. He’s 31 now and I’ve been training him for 12 years so I can say that I’ve known him for a pretty long time.
‘This is the first time I’ve played against him. He played for me more than 300 games and it was a bit strange to see him on the other team.
‘He’s a top player and I can understand why Arsenal went for him. I’m so happy that he got this great opportunity late in his career.’
After being at the club for the past few weeks, Norgaard recently opened up and revealed how has settled in – He told club media: “I’ve been able to be with the team from day one of pre-season and it’s benefited me a lot.
“I’m much further down the line now in terms of the integration of play than I would have been if I joined now.
“So it’s been fantastic so far. It’s such a good group, such a good group of staff and the whole team around has made everything very easy.
“I’m realistic, of course. I know this is a step up in terms of quality, size of club. But I’m also here to contribute, otherwise I wouldn’t have made the move.
“But I also know that there are some of the best players in the world in my position here, so it will be competitive. There’s the things you see in the weekend on the pitch, but there’s a lot of other things going on around the football team, and I hope I can really help this team both on and off the pitch.
“There’s a lot of competition, but for me, it was a chance to represent Arsenal at the age of 31. I was coming to a later stage in my career and I signed a new deal with Brentford.
“But when the interest came from ARSENAL and after my first talks with Mikel, it was very clear to me that I would do everything to be able to play here.
“To get this adventure, to be part of a team that has such big ambitions, is for me an amazing step to take this stage in my career.”
