Brilliant Spaniard informs board of transfer decision – Chelsea want deal done
Gavi has told Barcelona boss Xavi he has no intention of leaving the club this summer – despite the reports Chelsea
The Blues were the busiest sides in the January window, having splashed the cash to sign David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix and Mykhaylo Mudryk as former boss Graham Potter looked to strengthen his squad for the second phase of the season.
But the summer transfer window will give the Blues an opportunity to add a few more players to the side – and that has led to reports that the exciting Gavi is a player that the board now wants.
However – according to SPORT, Barcelona head coach has privately spoken to the young midfielder to reassure him he remains a vital player under him despite the uncertainty, telling him he ‘cannot imagine his midfield without him’
Gavi, in response, has underlined his commitment to the club and while he is eager for the registration issue to be resolved as soon as possible, remains focused on Barcelona.
Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany has been adamant Gavi will not be leaving Camp Nou: ‘Gavi renewed at the time for four seasons and he has three more to go,’ Alemany told DAZN on Sunday evening.
‘For sure he’s going to honour his contract. What’s more, we are convinced that not only will he fulfil his contract, he is going to finish his career at Barcelona.
‘That’s what he wants, what our fans want and what we want.’
He added: ‘We have absolute peace of mind. The player renewed, we are going to register him for sure, and for our part there is no problem.’
Manager Xavi was asked about Gavi’s future amid the links to Chelsea over the weekend and replied: ‘I don’t think Gavi would be happy at another club.
‘He has everything here. He is 18 years old. He’s a key player of our team. For me, he’s a footballer that is outstanding. I don’t know what he’ll decide but I think his future is here at the club.’
