French striker opens up and drops massive Chelsea transfer hint this summer
Olivier Giroud has hinted he could leave Chelsea this summer, despite signing a contract extension until next summer recently.
Giroud has been a big part of the Chelsea set-up since the re-start of the football after the coronavirus outbreak and has been a big reason why Chelsea managed to get back inside those top four spots and reach the FA Cup final.
The France striker looks set to start against his former club Arsenal in the FA Cup final on Saturday, with Frank Lampard aiming to win his first piece of silverware as a manager.
But with Tammy ABraham seen as the clubs future along with Timo Werner, game time at Stamford Bridge may be limited for the Frenchman next season, and Despite signing a new one-year deal in May, Giroud has cast doubt over his future in west London.
He told L’Equipe: “I still have one year to run on my Chelsea contract. If [I stay at] Chelsea, I’ll be happy. If this is not the case, another challenge will be presented to me.
“I can still play in a top league for another two years. I don’t set any limits for myself.
“I remember a discussion I had with Arsene Wenger.
“He told me that he saw me playing well until the age of 35 because, as I get older, my game would not be penalised since it is not based on speed.”
Look, Giroud has been brilliant for Chelsea over the past few weeks and fans will be sad if he does leave the club, but Werner and Abraham will help lead Chelsea into a new era and if Giroud cannot be satisfied with being a bit part player next season, then the best thing to do is leave the club this summer.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
