World Cup winner Giroud has message for Frank Lampard and four goal Chelsea star Abraham

Former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has told Frank Lampard he is ready to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard arrived in the summer transfer window with a big decision to make, and that is who would lead his attack over the next few years, with his options the experienced and proven Giroud, or the exciting Tammy ABraham.Tammy ABraham.Tammy ABraham.

Abraham had a breakthrough season in the Championship lasts season and netted an impressive 26-goals as he helped Aston Villa get back to the Premier League, and many have called for Lampard to give him a real shot at leading this attack.

And so far Lampard has made his choice clear, as the French striker has started just one of Chelsea’s four Premier League matches so far this season, with Frank Lampard instead putting his faith in 21-year-old Abraham.

And the youngster has not let his new manager down, scoring four goals already to emerge as Chelsea’s first-choice forward.

But Giroud has told Lampard that he will not stand by and just accept his role in the side, and will look to challenge Abraham for that starting spot at Stamford Bridge.

Giroud told Le Figaro: ‘Obviously not. I have goals in my head. ‘I’m here to help the next generation, but the time for retirement has not come.

‘I’m still hungry and have a lot of ambition. I don’t want to be Chelsea’s No.2 striker, for sure.

‘Just because I’m here as an older brother for the younger players, it doesn’t mean I’m out on the sidelines.

Giroud has been a decent servant for Chelsea over the past few seasons and it is great to see that he is still hungry enough to try and be the main man for the club, but Lampard has made his choice, Abraham is scoring the goals and Giroud is more of an impact player off the bench.

It is great to have such hungry strikers in the side, but Giroud should be professional about trying to win his place back, because if he does not, he could become very unsettled in the Chelsea squad, and then start making a fuss.
