Brilliant arrival ‘is the signing Arsenal needed to make’ fans told after star signs with the club
Tony Cascarino has claimed that Ben White was the signing that Arsenal needed to make this summer window.
After the news broke in the media that David Luiz would not be signing a new deal to stay at the club this summer, Mikel Arteta knew that he needed to add a quality centre-back to that defence.
Some big names were linked, and so were some talents, but in the end the Gunners board gave Arteta £50 million to wrap up a transfer deal for the very impressive Ben White, who is rated very highly in the Premier League
The England international, who went to Euro 2020 with the Three Lions, had a superb season for the Seagulls last time out, playing all but two of their Premier League matches.
And Tony Cascarino believes that White is a signing that Arsenal desperately need heading into the new season, as they look to improve on a disappointing eight-place finish last season.
“[Leeds manager Marcelo] Bielsa wanted him, he was desperate for him. They offered a huge amount of money and couldn’t get it over the line,” he told talkSPORT.
“It was £30-plus-million and he’d only been in the Championship, at that time.
“Ben White had a very good season last year at Brighton again and I think [Arsenal] have signed a very competent and – I say this because it gets underrated a lot – consistent player.
“They’ve needed someone like that, a consistent player.”
£50 million is alot of money to spend on a player that still has alot to prove in the game, but White really is a player that has the ability to push on and develop into one of the best defenders in the Premier League
He is a brilliant signing for the club and one that will be welcomed by the fans, despite his massive price tag
