James wants exit, Solskjaer message, Martial-Ronaldo comparison, £34m Grimaldo lined up in Arsenal, Man United Saturday

Here is the daily roundup of Arsenal and Manchester United news, gossip and transfer speculation from icfootballnews.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed the current Manchester United squad could excite for years.

Solskjaer has transformed this current United side into one of the best in the Premier League and continued his great start to life as Red Devils boss by picking up his tenth win in eleven matches, with a draw the only blemish on his record.

Two goals from Paul Pogba and one from Anthony Martial gave United a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, and moved the Red Devils back into the top four spot, which many cannot believe considering they were so far behind under Jose Mourinho.

Now Solskjaer insists the current crop of players could continue for the next five or more years, given their age.

He told Sky Sports: “I’ve always looked further ahead. I’ve followed United since I signed for them as a player. Of course I look at the squad, players, who can produce and perform now, next year and in two years?

“Even here you’ve got players who can perform for five, six, seven, eight, nine years because it’s such a young squad, an exciting squad.

“At the moment I’m just concentrating on getting us up the table, we’re fourth, let’s hope we can stay there and go higher.”

Meanwhile, United legend Gary Neville compared Martial to Cristiano Ronaldo after another great performance.

The Frenchman has really come alive under the Guidance of Solskjaer and is looking every bit the player which United paid £50 million for all those years ago, despite the fact that Mourinho had no faith in the winger.

Reports have claimed Arsenal are eying up a deal for Spain international Alex Grimaldo.

Gunners boss Unai Emery was limited in his transfer dealings during the January transfer window and only managed to secure a deal for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, who arrived towards the back end of the transfer window on a loan deal until the end of the season.

But it is widely expected that Emery will be given more freedom in the summer transfer window to improve the squad in hope of challenging for more than just a top four spot, with the Spanish boss keen top get Arsenal back to the top of the game.

And according to reports on the Mundo Deportivo website, Grimaldo is on Unai Emery’s radar for a summer deal, with the Gunners looking to battle Atletico Madrid fore the signature of the £34 million Spaniard.

Meanwhile, German football expert Raphael Honigstein who has claimed Arsenal target James Rodriguez wants to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Arsenal were linked with a loan move for James in January, as reports suggested that Emery was keen to add the Colombian superstar to the squad as he looked to find an adequate replacement for the unimpressive Mesut Ozil.

The logistics of the deal never seemed to make sense though as James is still on a two-year loan move from Real Madrid, meaning that a deal would have become very complicated between the three clubs, and considering there was just a few days left in the window, the Gunners didn’t have enough time to complete a move.

The Bundesliga giants have an option to buy the star for around £36m at the end of the season, but according to Honigstein they are unlikely to exercise the clause, which has put Arsenal on alert.

“Despite all his undeniable skill, he’s not done enough to convince successive coaches that they should build their team and system around him and his preferred No. 10 role,” he wrote in his column with ESPN.

“What he really wants, in terms of importance and freedom on the pitch, is probably unattainable at Bayern Munich.

“On top of that, there are serious doubts whether he really wants to stick around for much longer, either.

“His father, Wilson, this week talked up the potential of James joining Juventus at the end of his loan this summer.

“Stranger things have happened in football. But as things stand, Bayern fans are best advised to enjoy the South American’s trickery while they can.

“He’s unlikely to wear the red shirt again come August.”
