Gunners legend Kanu announces Arsenal have signed ‘real gem’ of a midfielder.

Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu believes the Gunners have a gem in the shape of Kelechi Nwakali.

Nwakali put pen to paper on a five-year contract after signing from the Diamond Football Academy in 2016, but is yet to make his senior debut for the club.

Nwakali led Nigeria to the Under-17 World Cup title in 2015, and also won the Golden Ball award.

He has spent most of his time out on-loan with spells at Dutch side MVV Maastricht and then VVV-Venlo

He is currently on loan with Portuguese giants Porto, and Kanu believes he has the talent to make it at Arsenal.

“Very, very good player,” Kanu told Goal.

“I hope you have seen him play, then you will know that he is good.

“He played for Nigeria before the World Cup, a friendly game against Atletico Madrid.

“He scored a fantastic goal, so he keeps playing and keeps progressing and keeps growing.

“I keep advising him. I hope one day they will open the door for him to come back to play for Arsenal.”

Here is what we think.

Nwakali is doing everything possible to impress enough to get a real shot at becoming a Arsenal star, but with all the changes the club are currently going through it is the wrong time to be a youngster at Arsenal.

Unai Emery is looking for immediate success in the Premier league and domestic Cup competitions, and although he will be giving talents a chance, he will mostly go with the experience he has at his disposal.

So Kanu may not see Nwakali become an Arsenal star in the immediate future, he hasn’t got the star qualities and ability that is needed.
