Sporting CP’s star striker and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres has opened up on whether he is planning to follow manager Ruben Amorim and head to Manchester United in the coming transfer windows.

The Swede, who scored 29 goals in his maiden season, has already notched up 11 in just eight games so far this campaign and there has been alot of speculation in the media that he is one player that clubs may look to sign in the January transfer window.

Gyokeres now heading for exit after Amorim departure?

Gyokeres is one of a number of Sporting CP players who could leave the Portuguese club in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s departure, with Arsenal, Chelsea and United likely to chase the former Coventry striker once again.

O Jogo reports that Gyokeres’ is “dissatisfied” with the decision of the head coach to depart for Manchester United, as the Portuguese boss was one of the main reasons that he stayed in the summer window.

That has led to reports in the media that Gyokeres could follow Amorim to Manchester United in the transfer window, ad the Red Devils need to add a striker to the attack that can actually score on a regular basis.

What has Gyokeres said?

Speaking to reporters, the forward said, “Going with Amorim to Man United? I don’t know, I’m here. As you can see, I enjoy it at Sporting. It’s nothing I think about. I’m sad about him leaving. We wish him all the best.”

Gyokeres Only at Sporting because of Amorim

Amorim’s agent Hasan Cetinkaya revealed in the summer that Gyokeres was only at Sporting because of Amorim, Cetinkaya admitted in an interview with A Bola: “It will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben.

“The day we met, I said to Ruben: ‘Here’s my boy, he came to Sporting because of you.’”

He further added: “There were eight clubs very interested in Viktor last summer [2023].

“They all paid Coventry more than Sporting, they all paid Viktor more, they all paid a higher commission to the agent.

“And I brought him to Sporting because of Ruben Amorim, because I know his work and his work with the players. I chose Ruben because he is a coach at another level.”

Gyokeres and his agent, then, have already shown their cards to Sporting and Arsenal over his future, putting a January transfer very much on the table.
