RLC hints at stay, £108m Blues target announces move, £58m star ‘will be great’ Chelsea signing, Sarri sacked claim, Bale message sent
Here is a roundup of the latest Chelsea news from icfootballnews
Chelsea target Antoine Griezmann has officially told Atletico Madrid that he will be leaving the club during the summer window.
Despite the fact that Chelsea are facing a huge transfer ban which means they cannot buy any players for the next two windows, the Blues are hoping the CAS postpone the ban and allow Maurizio Sarri to buy a few world class players, especially with Eden Hazard all set to leave.
The Belgian is a big target for Real Madrid and it is no secret that Chelsea are already preparing for life without Hazard, especially since he has already informed the club of his desire to leave, otherwise a new deal would have been signed.
And one name that has been mentioned as a possible target for Chelsea is that of Griezmann, who only signed a deal last season with the Spaniards amid speculation that he was set to leave for La Liga rivals Barcelona.
He was Atletico’s inspirational figure when they won the 2018 Europa League, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Olympique Marseilles in the final, before helping them win the UEFA Super Cup. Griezmann also lifted the Spanish Super Cup in 2014.
Griezmann, 28, said he had told Atletico coach Diego Simeone and chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin of his decision and addressed the supporters in the video message.
“I wanted to tell the fans who have always given me a lot of love that I have taken the decision to leave, to see other things, to have other challenges,” he said on the Marca website. (Read More)
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has told Chelsea that he wants to emulate the great John Terry, as he looks all set to commit his future to the club.
Loftus-Cheek has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this season as Maurizio Sarri has failed to give him the kind of Premier League game time that he needed and wanted, preferring to hand the England international most of his starts in the Europa league.
That has of course led to a lot of transfer speculation linking Loftus-Cheek with a summer move to either Liverpool or Arsenal, who are keen to add something different to their squads and are reportedly ready to meet the £40 million valuation on the head of Cheek.
But after reports emerged this week that Chelsea were planning to open talks with the midfielder, he has dropped a massive hint that he is all set to stay by admitting that he would like to emulate great Terry at Chelsea.
Loftus-Cheek, 23, briefly played alongside Terry at Stamford Bridge while the pair were at opposite ends of their careers but the former England captain clearly made a big impression on the midfielder.
When asked whether he wishes to emulate Terry at Chelsea by ESPNFC, Loftus-Cheek said: ‘Yeah definitely, but I think that comes with a lot of experience. I don’t think Chelsea can ever replace John [Terry]. He was the best leader I’ve seen, not just on the pitch but off it.
‘He was always organising and sorting stuff out to make it easier for us. On the pitch he was very vocal and was that character you have at the back who would organise and make you feel safe.
‘I’ve observed that and felt that feeling, and that’s something that comes with experience. The more experience I get, then hopefully I can be that person.’ (Read More)
Former Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has claimed that he is shocked to see that Maurizio Sarri is still boss at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea ended months of talks last summer when they finally agreed a deal with Napoli that allowed Sarri to make the move to Stamford Bridge, as owner Roman Abramovic believed he would bring the style of attacking play that the Russian has been craving.
However, there has been a lot of criticism in regards to the style of play of Sarri, with many fans chanting ‘F*** Sarriball’ on many occasions this season, despite the fact that he has got them back inside the top four and into two finals this season.
“Some say it’s been successful but it’s been very up and down,” Bridge told Sky Sports News.
“They’ve been very inconsistent and consistency is what you want of a big team. That’s what’s going to win you the Premier League.
“I don’t really know where he [Sarri] stands. I’m very surprised that he’s still there.
“They are third [in the Premier League] and they are in a final [the Europa League] but as an ex-player and a Chelsea fan, they would like to see them higher up in the table.
“I know it’s third but they want to see them competing [for the title].” (Read More)
Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie expects Christian Pulisic to be a “great signing” for Chelsea when he joins this summer.
Pulisic is easily regarded as one of the most talented wingers in world football right now and Chelsea ended months of transfer speculation during the January transfer window to secure a £58 million deal for the American, which is seen as a bargain by the Blues.
He is expected to be the idea man to help fill the void of Eden Hazard, who has netted an impressive 26-goals this season in all competitions, but is all set to pack his bags and leave for Real Madrid in a deal that could be worth around £86 million.
McKennie, who has played with Pulisic since youth level for the USA and also against him in the Bundesliga, thinks the 20-year-old has the qualities to be a success at Stamford Bridge.
“Christian is the type of player who likes a challenge and likes to experience new things as well,” said McKennie, speaking to Sky Sports at the launch of the new adidas Nemeziz 19+ boots in Herzogenaurach.
“I think he’ll be a great signing for Chelsea. He may not get it right away, he may get in and play you never know, but I think he’ll be helpful for them in any way that they use him.
“I’m excited for him and I know he’s excited to start that next chapter of his career and make an even bigger name for himself.” (Read More)
Chelsea transfer target Gareth Bale has ‘shown he can’t play at Real Madrid,’ according to former Real player and manager, Mariano Garcia Remon.
With the news that Eden Hazard could be all set to leave the club in the next few weeks, there has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few months which have suggested that Chelsea will be looking to try and sign the unhappy Bale.
Zidane and Bale had a fractured relationship during the Frenchman’s first spell at the club, and his return looked likely to signal the end of the Welshman’s stay in Madrid after being dropped by the Frenchman over the past few weeks.
And Remon has now told Chelsea that Bale has not lived upto expectations since his big money move to Madrid, despite the fact he has scored 102 goals in 231 appearances across all competitions and has won one La Liga title, a Copa del Rey and four Champions Leagues titles.
‘Real Madrid’s major problem is that they have to assemble an almost entirely new squad,’ Garcia Remon told Radio MARCA.
‘Some of the players have had a very bad season and it’s shown that they can’t play here.
‘Bale is one of them as this year he was given the chance to succeed and become the main man, but he couldn’t take it.’
