All about Chelsea! Sarri update on Hazard, Lewandowski contact, Odoi told to reject contract and more in Tuesday news and gossip
Here is the daily roundup of Chelsea news and gossip from icfootballnews.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has told Blues fans that Eden Hazard has not told him that he wants to leave for Real Madrid at the end of the current season.
Hazard has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the course of the season if you are a Chelsea fan, as there has been constant speculation that he wants to pack his bags and head for the dizzy heights of La Liga , to work under his footballing idol Zinedine Zidane.
It is no secret that Madrid need a revamp at the end of the season after a disappointing campaign, and Zidane is expected to spend around £400 million on acquiring some of the best players in world football right now, with a £100 million of that going towards the signing of Hazard.
But when asked if Hazard has told him he wants to leave, Sarri replied: ‘No, no. Not at the moment. ‘He told me he has to decide [not] anything else.’
He added: ‘I am sure the club doesn’t want to sell him, But of course, we all have to respect his decision, I think.
‘He is in the last season of his contract. If he wants to have another experience we have to respect it.
‘But we will try of course to convince him, but it’s not easy.’ (Read more)
Belgian superstar Eden Hazard has announced that he will consider his Chelsea future during the summer transfer window, amid links with Real Madrid.
It is no secret that the Belgian has become a top transfer target for the Spanish giants, with some reports even going as far to suggest that a deal has been struck and he has already agreed a mega money move to link-up with former team-mate Thibaut Courtois at the Bernabeu.
Madrid are in desperate need of some big players, and right now there are not too many stars out there that could walk into the side and fill the massive void which Cristiano Ronaldo left when he signed for Juventus last summer, but Hazard is one of those players.
Hazard was at his brilliant best on Monday evening as he scored twice, including one sublime solo effort, to secure Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over West Ham and during the match, West Ham fans were taunting their Chelsea rivals by singing ‘he’s off to Madrid’.
But when asked about the chants after the game, Hazard told Sky Sports: ‘They are wrong.
‘For now I am just focusing on Chelsea until the end of the season. I want to finish top four and Europa League, we still have a lot to do and then we will see.
‘We are in good momentum. We have won three in a row. For the mentality, it is good to keep going. Top four and the Europa League is our target so we need to do well in both but we can do it.’ (Read more)
There has been some reports emerge which have now claimed that Chelsea have made contact with Bayern Munich about a possible deal for striker Robert Lewandowski.
The Blues have been banned from registering new players until January 2020 for breaking rules over the signing of foreign under-18 players, but Barcelona had a similar punishment postponed for a year in 2016 after appeal, and Chelsea will be hoping they are allowed similar treatment as they line-up transfer targets.
And the latest name to be linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge is that of Lewandowski, with reports that he is seeking a fresh challenge away from the Bundesliga at the end of the season, with a move to La Liga or the Premier League high up on his list.
Maurizio Sarri ended months of speculation during the January transfer window to secure a deal for Gonzalo Higuaín, with hopes he could come in and be the clubs answer to their goal-scoring problems, but it simply hasn’t happened for the Argentine since his arrival and he has managed just three goals for Chelsea.
That has led to speculation that his time would be up at the end of the season as Chelsea would not offer him a long-term contract, and the TMW website has claimed that the Blues are targeting Lewandowski as a more long-term solution, with the hierarchy already contacting Bayern about a possible transfer deal. Lorenzo Insigne has been accused by former Napoli coach Gianni Di Marzio of mulling over leaving due to his new ties to super-agent Mino Raiola, with Chelsea possible destination for the Napoli star.
Sarri never quite managed to get his summer transfer business done before the season started having arrived so late, and only manged to acquire the services of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Kepa.
But he is expected to spend a bit more money in the summer transfer window, if they can get their transfer ban overturned, to really establish Chelsea as Premier League title contenders, as many pundits believe they do not have the strike-force or defence to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City.
And one player that is high up on the shopping list if former player Insigne, who was linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer but never managed to hold talks about a possible move as Napoli did not want to lose another one of their best players to Sarri.
But after Insigne joined up with super-agent Raiola, there has been talk that he could seek a mega money move away from Napoli in the summer and Di Marzio is not happy with the players decision to think about a big move.
“We must always be at attention. Insigne, in today’s interview and rectification, was wrong twice,” Di Marzio said on the TMW website
“As an arbitrator who, to fix a previous mistake, commits another. Surely having hired an agent like Raiola does not help, he manages to make important transfers.” (Read more)
Reds legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool transfer target Callum Hudson-Odoi to not sign a new contract at Chelsea.
Hudson-odoi is one of the most gifted talents in world football right now and has been so impressive over the past 12 months, that he has been tipped to become one of the best wingers in world football, should he get the game time to help him develop.
But his lack of game time under Maurizio Sarri this season has led to a lot of transfer speculation that he could leave the club at the end of the season, especially after reports emerged which suggested that he had rejected a massive £85,000-a-week contract.
The likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich are interested in his services, and amid all the transfer talk surrounding his future, Carragher has urged him not to sign a new contract with Chelsea, telling the Sky Sports website: “If I was Hudson-Odoi I wouldn’t sign [a new deal]. He’s in a very strong position. I love the fact he hasn’t signed a contract, not because of the money thing or because of Bayern Munich, but because he wants to play. There’s a frustration there. I love the courage he’s shown. He’s willing to say, ‘If I don’t play, I want to go’.
“I wouldn’t be going at the end of the season if I was him. The situation Chelsea are in, I’d use the last year of my contract as leverage. I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, he’d be saying to Chelsea, ‘Prove to me next season how important I am to you by playing me’.
“Chelsea want to give him a five-year deal because they’re terrified he’s going to leave for nothing, and as a business they’re going to leave for nothing. I have great respect for what this lad is doing at the moment.
“I don’t think he should sign, I don’t think he should leave, but I think he should see how many games he plays next season, and if he plays enough, sign a contract with your boyhood club, and if not, you move on.” (Read more)
