Defender set for January move as Sarri tells Hazard ‘stay and win Ballon Dor’ at Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri has told Eden Hazard that he can win the Ballon D’or at Chelsea, while Andreas Christensen may leave the club in January.

Hazard has been the subject of intense transfer speculation for the last 12 months with rumours Madrid are lining up a massive £200 million move to try and finally secure his services, as they look to revamp and re-shape the squad with their reported £500 million transfer kitty.

And it seems the Belgian superstar has made up his mind about leaving the club when he announced that a move to La Liga at the end of this season may be the only chance he has at ever becoming the worlds very best player and picking up that coveted Ballon D’or award.

But Sarri, who convinced Hazard to stay after his arrival from Napoli, has told Hazard how important he is to the side and how he can still win the Ballon D’or if he stays at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri told Sky Sports: “It will be very important for us if he remains. I think also that he can win everything, also the Ballon d’Or, here. For example, if Chelsea will be able to win the Champions League and the Belgium national team will be able to win the European cup (Championships), he will be able to win everything – without playing in Spain.”

Meanwhile, defender Christensen will ask to leave the club in January if he is not playing regular football by Christmas.

The 22-year-old is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, with Maurizio Sarri only utilising him in both of Chelsea’s Europa League outings and their Carabao Cup win over Liverpool, preferring David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger as his back two.

And as he looks to develop in the game and try to make a name for himself, his father and agent, Sten, believes it may be time for his son to move on permanently if his situation does not change.

He said on the Sky Sports website: “If his situation doesn’t change by Christmas, we’ll have a chat with Chelsea and say, ‘okay, what can we do for him? Could he play somewhere else?’ I’m not thinking another loan. It’s Chelsea or else he has to find another club. A loan spell would not be the best solution for Andreas. It’s one or the other. Too many of Chelsea’s players go out on loan when they don’t need them. Andreas should not get stuck in that.

“I believe that we will try to relocate Andreas come winter, if nothing has happened by Christmas, if he is not playing. But I’m not sure Chelsea will let him go. That is maybe not a problem as Chelsea are a fantastic club and Andreas loves London. But he is not happy with his situation on the pitch.”

Should Hazard stay and will Christensen leave? Here is what we think.

Firstly Chelsea need to be playing at the very top of the game and challenging for all the major trophies for Hazard to even come close to a Ballon D’or win, so unless the Blues carry on this good form and then get back into the Champions League, he will not stay.

As for Christensen, his time at Chelsea looks over especially since Sarri wants a deal for Alessio Romagnoli or Daniele Rugani, so the best thing for him right now is to leave as his situation at the club will not improve unless Luiz or Rudiger pick up an injury or two.
