Head of football Raul Sanllehi opens up and has big January transfer message for Arsenal fans
Raul Sanllehi says Arsenal could be active in the January transfer market and new head coach Mikel Arteta will start talks about his possible targets.
The Gunners may have ended months of speculation about their next boss after appointing Arteta, but that has not stopped the fact that the club are lacking serious quality in key areas of the pitch at the Emirates.
And that means that Arteta will need the backing of the Arsenal hierarchy to go out and spend the kind of money it will take to get this side challenging for that champions League spot, and then pushing on to challenge for some silverware and possibly the Premier League title.
Head of football Sanllehi has previous described the summer window as ‘strategic’ while January is rather more spontaneous, responding to any squad issues that arise or players that become available.
Asked if that is still the case following Arteta’s appointment, Sanllehi told the club’s website: ‘It is in general. The strategic window by definition is the summer window that’s when you plan the season ahead.
‘Last summer we did an incredible effort where we were very grateful to the support we got from our ownership.
‘We went really one step further and made a real investment that increased our expectations for the season. ‘The winter window is much more for tactical. We are going to get our conversations now between Mikel and Edu to see what things we can do.
‘Again, the strategic window and the one Edu and his team are really working on is for the long-term and that’s the summer window.’
Unai Emery spent some serious money during the summer window and got many fans excited ahead of the new season, but his signings have not worked out and they have once again flopped. So Arteta needs to take greater care with his transfer money and BUY PLAYERS THAT WILL SEND A STATEMENT.
That doesn’t mean over the hill or youngters on the rise, IT MEANS WORLD CLASS PLAYERS MIKEL.
