‘He’d get the fans off their seat’ as Arteta urged to bring £80 million star to Arsenal
Emmanuel Petit has urged Arsenal to try and sign Wilfred Zaha during the summer transfer window.
Despite all the rumours, despite all the speculation and despite the talk that Zaha was keen on a move to the Emirates, the Arsenal board made the strange decision to break the club record and bring Nicolas Pepe to the Premier League after one good season in France.
Zaha has gone on to re-establish himself in the Premier League, while Pepe has failed to impress many at the Arsenal, but there is more speculation in the media that the Gunners are still interested in a deal
‘Zaha has been repeatedly linked with Arsenal in recent years. Arsenal used to play with wingers and guys who could make a difference on the flank, who would take responsibility and show the hunger and desire to get the victory – that was the Arsenal that I knew!’ Petit told the Metro
‘When I played for Arsenal in the late 1990s we had Marc Overmars, Sylvain Wiltord and Robert Pires – these players were so exciting to watch.
‘Zaha is an unpredictable player, you don’t know what he’s going to do with the ball. He’s got a strong character, and sometimes he needs to control of his emotions, but he’s exactly the kind of player Arsenal need. He’d get the fans excited and stimulate his own team-mates too.
‘For ages, Arsenal haven’t had a player who could dribble or make a difference with the ball at his feet. With Zaha, they would have somebody capable of taking responsibility and not scared to take on defenders.’
Look, we are massive fans of Zaha and firmly believe that he should be playing at one of the big clubs in the Premier League, so if the Gunners are willing to pay that big money, he would be a great signing for the club.
