Five and out! Chelsea officially announce summer decision as striker Higuain makes move!
Chelsea have officially announced that Gonzalo Higuain will not be making the permanent move to Stamford Bridge, after confirming his exit from the club.
Higuain was once regarded as one of the finest goal-scorers in world football and become a legend at Napoli during his brief spell under the guidance of Sarri at the Italian giants, but those days have gone and he is no longer the player he once was.
He has failed to produce the goods on a regular basis and only has five goals in his appearances for the club, despite the fact that he the Sarri’s main man up top.
There was some speculation that the Blues could offer the forward a long-term deal, especially as they are unable to delve into their transfer kitty and acquire the type of players that could bolster their front-line this summer.
However, after much debate and speculation, Chelsea have confirmed that Higuain will be leaving the club now that his loan deal has ended and he will be returning to Italy.
Chelsea announced on their website: “Gonzalo Higuain joined Chelsea on loan from Juventus in January. He was reunited with Maurizio Sarri after their successful time together at Napoli.
“Higuain made his Blues bow in an FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday, and opened his account with two superbly-taken goals the following weekend against struggling Huddersfield.
“He netted three more times before the expiry of his loan, all sharp finishes that highlighted his natural ability in front of goal. Fulham, Burnley and Watford were his victims, and he more than played his part in our eventual third-placed Premier League finish.”
Letting Higuain leave the club was the right idea as now Tammy Abraham can come In and finally try to nail down a regular starting spot in the squad.
Abraham netted an impressive 26-goals last season and needed Higuain to leave to be the challenger to Olivier Giroud for the chance to lead the attack.
Chelsea also said goodbye to the likes of Gary Cahill, Rob Green, Eduardo and Kyle Scott.
