£100M Valued star ‘is missing link for Arsenal’ as transfer message sent
Paul Merson admits he is ‘surprised’ ARSENAL did not ‘break the bank’ for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak last summer, claiming that the big Swedish star is the missing link for Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal were heavily linked with adding a new striker to the side over the summer window, and were linked with a move for Isak, but despite all the speculation, despite all the rumours and despite the possible excitement of his signing, a move never happened and he stayed at the Toon.
Kai Havertz has generally impressed – scoring seven goals so far this term – but Arsenal have endured a poor run to leave them nine points adrift in the title race following the 1-1 draw with London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
Isak was also in action on Sunday – scoring for Newcastle against Nottingham Forest earlier in the day – and Merson claimed that he was ‘surprised’ Arsenal did not make a serious move for his signature.
‘I’m a big fan of this lad,’ Merson told Sky Sports when asked about Isak. I’m surprised Arsenal didn’t try and break the bank for him over the summer, I think he was the missing link for Arsenal.
