‘I’ve heard whispers’ £100M frustrated star will make move to Arsenal

ARSENAL have once again been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and former Man United, Sunderland and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown has claimed the striker has grown “fed up” with a perceived lack of ambition at St James’ Park.

Isak conjured up 21 goals and two assists across 30 Premier League games last season, and with no European fixtures this term, Newcastle look set to challenge for a top-four finish, which they achieved under manager Eddie Howe in 2022-23.

Isak, who has only scored twice for Newcastle so far this term, has ambitions to keep playing in the Champions League after having a taste at Toon a year ago, but But if Eddie Howe’s side miss out on a top four finish then he could potentially look to leave, with a lack of an extended deal increasing that possibility.

Isak remains under contract until 2028 and preliminary discussions between the Magpies and the star over a new package were held before the summer, but that has not stopped rumours that Arsenal are keen.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID?

Brown has insisted they will need to match the striker’s ambitions of playing Champions League football to convince him to stay for the long-term future, but he has heard whispers a move to Arsenal could happen

He’d be an asset to any club in Europe,” he told Football Insider. “I’ve heard whispers speaking about a potential move to ARSENAL and that wouldn’t shock me.

There are a few of the top clubs who have been keeping an eye on his situation.

“I think he’s getting a bit fed up at Newcastle and was expecting them to show a bit more ambition in the transfer window and with their results.

“He might feel next summer is a good time for him to move on. That’s the way things are now, particularly if they don’t qualify for Champions League football.

“They want to tie him down to a new contract, but I wouldn’t expect him to commit unless the club can prove they’ll match his ambitions.

“Wayne Rooney did it at Man United. He said if they weren’t going to buy players and show some ambition, he’d leave.

I’d expect if things don’t start to improve, Isak will be in that same situation.”
