Goal-scoring attacker ‘EXCITED’ about summer move after CONFIRMED Arsenal deal announced!
Gabriel Jesus has expressed his excitement at beginning a new chapter with Barcelona after completing his transfer from Arsenal on a three-year contract.
The Brazilian forward officially joined the Catalan giants on deadline day, bringing an end to a four-year spell in north London. Barcelona confirmed that Jesus has signed a deal running until June 2029, with reports putting the transfer fee at around £8.6 million (€10m).
Jesus admitted that the opportunity to join Barcelona represents a dream for him and revealed that he is already eager to get down to work with his new teammates and head coach Hansi Flick.
The 29-year-old said the possibility of moving to the Spanish champions emerged only around a week before the transfer was completed, but he quickly became excited by the prospect of making the switch.
‘Good afternoon everyone. I’ve played with many Spaniards and I’m going to try to do this presentation in Spanish,’ a beaming Jesus told reporters.
‘Everything has happened very quickly. I’ve had two difficult years but you all know my qualities and how I can help. That’s made things easier.
‘I’m really looking forward to being here at a club as big as Barca. I want to thank sporting director Deco and the president Joan Laporta.’
During his four seasons with ARSENAL, he made 123 appearances and scored 32 goals across all competitions. However, injuries and increased competition for places limited his opportunities towards the end of his Arsenal career, with the forward making only three Premier League starts last season.
His move to Barcelona therefore offers Jesus an opportunity to revive his career at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Barcelona have been searching for additional attacking options, while their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez failed to produce a deal. Jesus now provides Flick with an experienced forward capable of playing centrally or in wider attacking positions.
The Brazilian is also joining a Barcelona squad containing several familiar faces, including fellow Brazilians and former Manchester City teammates, which should help him settle into his new surroundings.
For Jesus, however, the immediate priority is simple: getting onto the pitch.
